The Dolphin gull is a Falkland Islands resident breeder. A small gull easily recognised by its deep red bill and legs, golden yellow iris and bright red eye ring (adults). Length: 43cm (17inches). Scavenges from other birds and takes food where it can, sometimes foraging for marine life on beaches or waste around settlements. The Falklands probably hosts most of the world's population of Dolphin gulls.
Found on Southern South America from 42°S to Tierra del Fuego, the Beagle Channel and the Falkland Islands. |
